Cardiff, Wales. 1st April 2009. The Spring Conference of the Association of Genetic Nurses and Counsellors was held yesterday and today at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff with more than 100 delegates attending.
The conference was the public début of Evagene Clinical, an innovative new tool for genetics clinicians and researchers aimed at reducing the complexity of working with pedigree data and offering decision support by determining predisposition risks of cancerous genes.
The Evagene stand attracted crowd after crowd of fascinated geneticists who tried Evagene Natural Pedigree Drawing for the first time and experience risk analysis reports for clinical decision support.
Evagene Natural Pedigree Drawing helps genetics professionals to draw family trees using the same techniques as they would with a pen and paper - by sketching the diagram with a computerised stylus. This approach leans on the experience of the geneticist to reduce the amount of effort and time needed to create intricate family tree drawings and genetic models, freeing up time to be spent on diagnosis, treatment and research.
The pedigree drawing is interpreted by Evagene into a genetic model of the individuals and their relationships which can be analysed at the press of a button to assess the risk of diseased gene for common hereditary diseases, including breast cancer and colon cancer. The risk reports, generated by BayesMendel, employ tried and tested statistical methods and genetic models.
